I can’t wait for you to join me in Borneo for a fabulous holiday where just about everything is included, and you will have incredible experiences learning about ancient tribes and culture, spotting orangutans, sun bears and pygmy elephants,  swimming and snorkelling, havig lots of laughs and making new friends and so much more.  

 This women’s trip will be one of the most unique experiences you’ve had on a holiday and I can’t wait to share it with you.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Kota Kinabalu – Grandis Hotel

Meet your transfer at Kota Kinabalu Airport and check into Grandis Hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

North Borneo Sunset Cruise – dancing, music and welcome dinner – I can’t wait to get to know you!

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu

Today we will take a day trip over to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park islands. They are really beautiful with the bluest water and white sand. You can swim and snorkel, and there are some water activities to do – some of the women on my last trip went parasailing…we almost went on the banana boat! We’ll have lunch on the islands and then return to the hotel for a rest before dinner at Kampung Nelayan with a fun cultural show – and we can get up on stage to dance and blow darts! So much fun!

Day 3: Kota Kinabalu to Kundasang – Perkasa Hotel

Today we will set off for the Mari Mari Culture Centre to learn about the many tribes of Borneo. It’s the best culture centre I’ve ever been to, you will love it. We will have lunch and set off for Kinabalu Park stopping at Nabalu Native Market with its fabulous views over Mt Kinabalu for souvenirs, handicraft, local fruits. We will then visit Kundasang Memorial Park – a memorial to the brave men who marched in the Sandakan Death March, before checking into our awesome hotel and our rooms with views over Mt Kinabalu.

Day 4: Kundasang to Kinbatangan

This morning we will visit a social enterprise fish spa in a natural stream that is protecting the environment and supporting local communities. We will then find a rafflesia – the largest flower in the world (pending blooming). Our lunch will be at the beautiful Sabah Tea Garden where we will also view the memorial to Private Allan Quailey. After lunch, we have a bit of a drive overland to Bilit, Kinabatangan – our adventure lodge on the river. Tonight, we will have a guided night walk in search of nocturnal wildlife.

Day 5: Bilit, Kinabatangan River

This morning before breakfast we will have an early morning cruise to see wildlife and birdlife like orangutans, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, kindfishers and possibly pygmy elephants! After breakfast try batik painting, listen to a talk about Sabah’s wildlife and take a guided jungle walk. In the late afternoon we will take a second boat cruise in search of more wildlife that gather along the Kinabatangan River. Tonight, learn the cultural dance of Sabah.

Day 6: Kinabtangan River to Sandakan

After breakfast we will depart for Sandakan, stopping at the Sandakan War Memorial Park, with lunch at the The English Tea House and a visit to Agnes Keith House. After lunch we will check into the Sabah Hotel and have the afternoon to relax by the pool (they make fab cocktails!). Tonight we will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: Sandakan – Sabah Hotel

After breakfast we will set off to Labuk Bay Sanctuary to see the proboscis monkeys feeding and playing. Lunch is delicious roti canai and roti susu. We will visit the beautiful Puu Jih Syh Temple overlooking Sandakan Harbour before returning to the hotel and then heading out to dinner.

Day 8: Sepilok Orangutan/Sun Bear – Sabah Hotel

Today is a full day excursion to the world famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for both morning and afternoon feedings. We will see the world’s smallest bear at the Bornean Sun Bear Centre and take a guided walk at the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Lunch is included, and tonight is our farewell dinner at Empire Seafood.

Day 9: Departure Sandakan Airport:

Today, free day until departure transfer to Sandakan Airport for your onwards journey. I’ll miss you!

If you have booked the Turtle Island add-on you will check out and set off for your visit and overnight stay on the island.

Turtle Island extension

This overnight island experience includes transfers and speedboat transport to Turtle Island, all meals and afternoon swimming in the gorgeous blue water. In the evening you will experience watching turtles lay their eggs on the beach, and see a baby turtle release under the moonlight.
You return to the mainland after breakfast the following day – so depending on your flight time you can either go to the airport or book one final night at Sabah Hotel.

WHERE ARE WE STAYING?

We will stay at the Grandis Hotel in Kota Kinabalu – Emmie and I have stayed here previously and we really liked it for its huge rooms, rooftop pools with views over the ocean and location. We will also stay at the Kundasang Perkasa or Kinabalu Pines Hotel in Kundasang. In the Kinabatangan we will stay in the gorgeous Adventure Lodge in the jungle and in Sandakan we stay at the Sabah Hotel.

FLIGHTS.

Our trips are land only so you will need to book your flights to Borneo.

Our trips begins in Kota Kinabalu and ends in Sandakan. When you book your flights you can book return to Kota Kinabalu or you could book return to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, and then connections into Kota Kinabalu and back out from Sandakan.

Everyone who comes with us must have travel insurance. I recommend Cover-More insurance  – I’ve used them since 1997 when I first went backpacking and they’ve always been amazing. I recently used Southern Cross Travel who were also excellent when my daughter Emmie was sick in Japan. You can use any insurance company you like – just make sure you read the PDS and make sure you’re well covered.
